Empowering Small Businesses: A B2C Website Delivering Top-Notch IT Support Across the Kansas City Metro Area

Problem

Crash Technology Group provides exceptional IT services to numerous small businesses in the Kansas City Metro area. However, despite their growing success, they lacked a reliable website. Without an online presence, they couldn’t effectively showcase their services or offer a convenient communication channel for potential clients

The Perfect Logo

I was tasked with designing a logo for the website, a process that involved a careful selection of colors and fonts to convey the brand’s identity. Drawing from my experience, I chose a vibrant orange to symbolize energy and enthusiasm, paired with a professional blue to convey trust and reliability.

After creating several logo options, each incorporating different combinations of these colors and various fonts, I presented the designs to the client. They ultimately chose the “signal” design, which perfectly balanced the dynamic vibrance of orange with the professional stability of blue, effectively capturing the essence of their brand.

Wireframes

I produced medium-fidelity wireframes based on the gathered information, establishing a foundational framework to illustrate each user flow. With careful consideration of user interaction, I constructed each page to optimize navigation within the app.

Transitioning to high-fidelity wireframes, I maintained a consistent color palette of blue with light accents of orange and light blue. These detailed designs aimed to comprehensively showcase the company’s offerings while emphasizing clear and intuitive design structures.

Testing and Re-Designing

Using Figma, I created a high-fidelity, fully functional prototype of the new user flows. Concurrently, I initiated the search for test participants. Personally engaging with three individuals, I observed their interactions with the site as they undertook the following tasks:

  • Submitted an IT issue to the business.
  • Explored the services offered by the business.
  • Sought additional information about the company and its team members.

Through this process of identifying and refining issues, it became evident that the services page required more comprehensive information for users.

Final Thoughts

Undertaking this solo project initially gave me pause, given my limited background in IT technology. However, I embraced the challenge with determination. Approaching the research phase with curiosity, I prioritized user focus to ensure a seamless website experience. Gaining valuable insights into user behavior and preferences, I crafted a design strategy aimed at enhancing usability. Each decision, from layout to navigation, was meticulously made to guide visitors intuitively. This user-centric approach infused purpose into the redesign process, resulting in a website that effectively meets user needs.
